Weekend Forecast

What a difference a cold front can make! Once it passed through late morning, our wind direction changed and the sea breeze kicked in. Boston reached it's high temp at 10am!

Not too much will change for tomorrow. Sea breeze will keep those of us within 5 miles of the coast in the mid to upper 60's. West of that area, temps sore into the upper 70's. Sun will dominate the day. Combine that with low humidity and it will be very pleasant!

Sunday won't be as nice. The storm system that has been creating all of those severe t-storms in the midwest will approach our area. It is running into some pretty dry air situated over the east coast, so for the most part, it will split up into two weaker storms and essentially fall apart. It will still bring some clouds with its arrival and because of that, any sunshine on Sunday will be nil to none. Clouds dominate the day, but we should stay dry. Notice that hot air building in the upper mid west on the graphic below. A taste of what's to come!

Rain Gone, Sun In

A nice little storm we had overnight into today. It really picked up some steam as it passed just south of us, bringing some strong winds and heavy rainfall. Areas on Cape Cod picked up anywhere between 2 and 3.5 inches of rain, while Boston picked up just over 1.5 inches. This was our biggest rainfall total since our historic March washout!

You will all like what is ahead. Our storm is slowly moving away from us as we speak and despite some early morning clouds tomorrow, they quickly give way to a sun that wants to really warm us up and some dry winds from the west that want to give us a beautiful day. Both will succeed. Temps should sore into the upper 70's to low 80's, with the possibility of a shower popping up further north. Those of you running the race on the Charles tomorrow night will have excellent running weather!

It only gets better from there. Friday is another gorgeous day, with a more potent sea breeze. The weekend looks nice as well and there are signs we will really jump up in the temperature department next week. 90's not out of the question!

Spring in Full Swing

Great stretch of weather we have been having culminating with a very nice past weekend. Low humidity and plenty of sunshine has made it ideal for outside activities! The downside of course is pollen season is also very bad this year. Our VERY wet early spring has resulted in a potent pollen season. Right now the culprits are birch and maple tree pollen and unfortunately it won't get any better for the next few weeks.

The good news for now is that we have a pretty nice week ahead of us. High pressure is dominating our weather today making for a perfect afternoon. Since the air is quite still, a sea breeze is picking up somewhat for coastal areas but it should hot hinder the great weather too much.

Going forward, Tuesday will be a transition day of sorts. A little more cloudy than today with temperatures holding in the mid 60's. By Tuesday night, a storm approaches us from the southwest and will make for a rainy start to the day Wednesday. The closer to the coast you are, the more rain you can expect. Won't be a washout as the rain tapers in the afternoon, but it figures to be the worst day of the week.

After that, we are going to warm up!! The end of the week looks real pretty with sunshine and 80 degree warmth!

Go Celtics!

Frost On It's Way!

The calender says May, but it will feel like late winter tonight as the NWS has issued a frost advisory, even for the city of Boston, a rarity this late into spring. Winds have calmed and we have a clear sky overhead. This means radiational cooling, and with a cold air mass overhead, temps will fall off quickly, with some locations falling below freezing!

Tomorrow will be a very pleasant day, but prepare for rain and cool weather on Wendesday!

BRRRRRRRR

What a pattern change! I woke up this morning to temps in the mid 40's and some pretty stiff wind gusts from the north west. This is our weather for the next week and possibly more. Clouds are moving in this afternoon, so the rest of the day could turn kind of grim.

Happy mothers day to all moms, especially my mom who is the best in the world!

Mothers Day Weekend

What a stretch of fine weather we have had. 70's and above, plenty of sunshine and minimal rainfall have made for a very pleasant spring season. Today was no different but tomorrow starts the transition into a much different, more traditional spring pattern for us.

An intensifying low pressure system that is causing severe storms in the Ohio valley region will shift eastward overnight and move into Northern New England. Expect scattered showers tomorrow morning with some potential for clearing into the afternoon. Temperature expectations are up in the air right now, because of the uncertainty of where our retreating warm front sets up. Could be pretty sharp temperature cut offs depending on location.

As we move into Saturday night, stronger thunderstorms will move in from the west, but they should weaken as they get closer to the coast. By nightfall, northwestern winds will really pick up, gusting to 45mph. These winds mean the end of our warm days for now.

Mothers day will be partly cloudy, but much cooler and still pretty breezy. No shorts weather I'm afraid.

Newt week looks to stay cool, as a ridge of High pressure keeps us in the cool airflow all week. We will even see some very cold nights, down into the lower 30's!

April Climate Data

[TEMPERATURE DATA]

AVERAGE MONTHLY: 53.0
DPTR FM NORMAL: 4.7
HIGHEST: 90 ON April 7
LOWEST: 35 ON April 28

[PRECIPITATION DATA]

TOTAL FOR MONTH: 1.78

DPTR FM NORMAL 8.12

Some quick notes..

- After a record breaking month in March for rainfall, we only ended up with 1.78 inches in April! I did say that the atmosphere tends to even itself out in these situations, did I not!?? Extremely wet period followed by a relatively dry period.
We are still 8 inches over our normal rainfall totals for the year.

- April is quite an interesting time of year. Look at our difference from our max high temp to our min low temp. Almost 60 degrees!

Heat for Us, Severe Storms for the South

Today will most certainly feel like summer. We are in the grip of a strong southwesterly flow, ahead of the strong front that is creating all of that tornadic activity and heavy rainfall in the south and midwest.

No sea breeze for Boston today. Expect temps to reach the upper 80's with humidity on the rise as well.

For all of my friends in the mid west today, keep an eye on the radar and weather alerts all day! Especially Jason and Sarah in Memphis!!
